Leaks are a thing of the past for Arnold Clark after Plygene Gutterline commercial gutter refurbishment.

Industrial Roofing Scotland were recently tasked with over sheeting a large asbestos roof, replacing the existing North Light glass panels with Filon sheets, and refurbishing the existing gutter systems.  These comprised four valley gutters at 60 linear metres and one boundary gutter at 30 linear metres.  Arnold Clark had reported a history of leaks which had made the business of designing, building and repairing vehicles problematic.  Failing gutters were a major part of the problem and Industrial Roofing Scotland called on Sharmans to help with a full commercial gutter refurbishment.

Plygene Gutter Refurbishment

Arnold Clark ProjectA site visit was arranged for one of our Technical Services Managers to conduct a gutter survey.  The first major consideration was to make sure hazards relating to working on asbestos roofing were identified, and control measures implemented to ensure risks were reduced to a minimum.  The second major consideration was the roof envelope itself and the most effective way of installing the Plygene Gutterline system.  On one side of the valley gutter systems were steep roof pitches comprising Northern Light glass panels, whilst the other comprising metal cladding was at a lesser angle.  Our Technical Services Manager, Billy, was able to recommend that the liner should be trapped with new flashings behind the Filon sheets which were replacing the glass panels as part of the roof refurbishment. Billy also advised that a bespoke, moulded and weldable system was required, incorporating wier overflow outlets at the stop end.  This was to ensure sufficient drainage of water at the end of the gutter if it became full.  The technical advice offered not only helped to ensure the Plygene Gutterline system installed was fit for purpose, but also ensured the smooth operation of the whole commercial gutter refurbishment, roof over sheeting and rooflight replacement.  Billy continued to provide onsite support with audits and advice throughout the installation.

Industrial Roofing Scotland have used the Plygene Gutterline system for several of their projects over the years.  Director, Jamie Morton commented:

I know that the Plygene Gutterline liners I installed 10 years ago are still doing their job and that this is a system I can rely on.  It’s easy to install and not weather dependent so saves on time and labour compared to other systems.  The regular onsite support from Billy is a great help.  Although more gutter systems have been brought to market, I have no intention of switching in the future.

This installation has once again illustrated why the Plygene Gutterline system is the UK’s leading commercial gutter refurbishment system.  The bespoke moulded units provided design flexibility whilst reducing complexity which allowed for fast and effective installation.  Quality assurance processes during the moulded units manufacture ensured that as soon as fixed to the liner, risk of water ingress to the building was eliminated for at least 25 years.  Peace of mind at last for Arnold Clark!
