Water ingress issues solved by the Plygene® Gutterline system.

A leaking gutter, causing water to drip onto electrical equipment at the Swansea premises of KSR Electronic Systems was a serious hazard. The Wales headquarters of transport industry giant, KSR International Group, had problems with failing guttering and sought a long-term cost effective answer without the need to replace all gutters.

In order to permanently prevent future leaks, contractor Facility Services Group sought a full gutter refurbishment solution. The Plygene Gutterline system was selected because it is bespoke engineered, guaranteed for 25 years and highly adaptabile in addressing a number of project requirements, as explained by specifier Neil Evans, of Facility Services Group:

‘We needed something that satisfied timescale requirements for efficiency of installation and longevity in terms of continued maintenance. ‘The system we selected undoubtedly achieved both of these.’

Commenting on the challenges faced during the work, Sharman’s Technical Services Manager, Clive Draper said:

‘Facility Services Group were able to confidently specify the Plygene Gutterline system, having worked with it successfully on previous projects. ‘A key factor in the system’s suitability for this particular job was the width of the gutter involved, at over one metre. ‘With a project area of this size, the elimination of joints was an important aim for the project team. ‘Following Sharmans approved installation methodology, they were able to ensure a seamless permanent solution  guaranteed for 25 years.’

The project was completed to new system guide fixing specifications, with the liner trapped and pinned behind new flashings at 500mm centres. Wind uplift restraints were twin pinned either side of the gutter as specified. On-site facilities manager at KSR’s premises, Patrick Silman, highlighted the satisfaction with the completed installation: ‘This central gutter had been leaking for some time and Sharman’s gutter lining system was the most cost-effective solution to the problem. ‘Installation went very well and we would be confident in using this system again if a similar situation arose.’
